What is The Flipside?
The Flip Side, a nonprofit venture aimed at serving communities of color in and around Boston, will fill gaps in local news coverage. Articles The Flipside produces will appear in the Bay State Banner, El Mundo and other local papers as well as on the website we’re launching today.
In my more than 30 years working as a journalist, I have covered the social, political and economic gains of Black, Latino and Asian American communities in and around Boston. Over the years, I’ve watched the local news landscape shift in myriad ways, not all of them good. News coverage of local affairs has suffered as news organizations have cut staff. Independent news outlets have withered and disappeared over the years.
But I believe our communities deserve better coverage, not less. The Flip Side, a nonprofit venture aimed at serving communities of color in and around Boston, will fill gaps in local news coverage. Articles The Flipside produces will appear in the Bay State Banner, El Mundo and other local papers as well as on the website we’re launching today.
